Living and breathing in the Second City
It always makes me nervous when people predict good things for the Cubs. Needless to say I plan on burning the newest issue of Sports Illustrated, which predicts the Cubs will go to the World Series. Jeez! Don’t say stuff like that. Lucky for us they have us losing to the Tigers.

Today Congress questions MLB Commissioner Bud Selig, Special Investigator George Mitchell, and Players Union Boss (and slimy weasel) Donald Fehr, on the Steroid-Asterisk era in baseball. It should be interesting, if only to watch Selig & Fehr both dance and weave around questions regarding their seeming do-nothing stance for YEARS on the use of [...]
Drat!!! Last night I couldn’t help thinking, it’s about time someone start one of those “FireSo-in-so” sites for Bears’ Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner. Offensive is definitely the key word. He has a nasty habit of using all the pieces at the most inappropriate times. Like last night, he ran Garrett Wolfe–170 pound Garrett Wolfe–right up [...]
I thought Grossman played pretty darned good last night. He overthrew Berrian a few times, but Berrian also dropped a couple of passes. The Bears are not mathematically eliminated, but the playoffs a now little more than a pipe dream. I’m hoping the Bears manage to sign Grossman to a short term contract, but if [...]
According to reports, Cedric Benson is out with a “lower leg” injury. That sounds made up to me. Did he break his leg or what? Is that where he keeps his weed?
We knew it was coming. I wish it would’ve been before he broke Aaron’s record. Of course, if he’s convicted he’ll be kicked out of baseball. But if he get’s off the hook somehow, the question is will an indictment be enough to get him kicked out of baseball. If not, Selig better start apologizing [...]
For the previous 58 minutes, offensive coordinator, Ron Turner called plays. They were conservative, they were predictable, and quite predictably, nothing happened. In the final two minutes, thanks to a technological malfunction, Brian Griese called the plays. What happened was magic. Just think if we’d let Griese call the plays all game long?
Just in case you were interested.
With Soriano out, the mood on the north side is likely to sour very quickly. But the reality is that their starting pitching a far bigger problem than Soriano. Between Pagan and Jones and perhaps Felix Pie, I’m pretty confident the Cubs can take care of the outfield in Alfonzo’s absence. But what are they [...]
Seriously. Read the Sun-Times today. Couch goes out of his way to find something negative about the return of Kerry Wood. Couch writes:
So how long will Wood, who’s throwing 94 mph, really be a bit part?
Here’s a prediction: Within two weeks, he’ll be an important part of the bullpen. And the hype will build around [...]
