Who am I?

Born in Arkansas, I moved to Chicago in 1999. I love this city and don’t plan on leaving unless I’m offered my own country or something. First and foremost I am writer. My op-eds and have published in the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times, and in online publications like the American Spectator Online and TCSDaily.

Second, I am vice president of The Sam Adams Alliance, which is a non-profit organization that empowers citizens to hold their state and local governments accountable for corruption, abuse, and mismanagement of the public purse.

[Also, nothing written on this site should be taken as reflecting upon the positions taken by The Sam Adams Alliance.]

Prior to joining Sam Adams I worked as a media and education specialist at The Heartland Institute from 2005 to 2007. Before that I worked as a policy analyst for the Illinois Policy Institute. I have a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois-Chicago and a master’s degree from the University of Chicago … and the student loans to prove it!

Finally, I am a home brewer. I regularly brew more beer than I can drink, but I have a lot of fun trying.

I live in Oak Park with my wife and three cats, one of which I’m convinced is trying to kill the other two. It’s entertaining to say the least.

The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
