Living and breathing in the Second City
I’m still a little confused by the pursuit of lead-off man Brian Roberts. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why the Cubs are interested in Roberts: .290 AVG, .377 OBP. But they’re looking at trading Sean Marshall, who is one of the more consistent Cubs starters. They obviously hope that Dempster can take the fifth spot, but that’s a bit of a gamble. And the Cubs still remain a little lite when it comes to starting pitching. I’m not going to object to a Roberts deal, but if it comes at the expense of getting another quality starter then I think it could prove a costly mistake. But I guess they pay guys a lot of money to make those kinds of decisions right?

What do you do with DeRosa now? Apparently he would be a “super-sub” who would give rest to Fukudome in his 1st season in MLB season, and rest to whomever plays SS and rest for Roberts at 2nd.
But to depend on Dempster and Marquis (at the expense of trading Marshall) in your rotation is just plain stupid.
I also can’t help but wonder, what about the steroid allegations involving Roberts and his so-called “one time use” of the drug? I know this is off topic, but I would love for a baseball organization to take a stand on steroids and REFUSE to ever sign a player who was found to have taken steroids or HGH. In this case, Roberts at least admitted that he had taken steroids, albeit “only once.” I know the argument can be made that some other team would take Roberts no questions asked…and that MLB did not have a drug policy in place, yada yada yada…
I guess I’m getting really sick and tired of the political spinning coming out of baseball…there is no better place to be on a beuatiful summer day in Chicago then Wrigley Field, but I am getting increasing disgusted with baseball and last year I attended 3 games, 2 of which were FREE tickets to the game. I had only planned on paying for/attending one game, as I am sick and tired of the seeming contempt that MLB has for the fans.
No one is forcing me to attend games, and increasingly I am approaching baseball with anger and probably, eventually, apathy.
