Living and breathing in the Second City
You gotta be kidding me. The state is already in a heap of debt. Wrigley Filed would have no shortage of private bidders and STILL Blagojevich thinks the taxpayers should own it. The same politicians who have shown they can even run the state right think they are qualified to run Chicago’s playground? I need a beer … already.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

It does make me sick to think of the state owning Wrigley Field. The incompetent state that can’t pass a budget in a timely fashion, that continues to be clouded with scandals related to corruption…
So, apparently the thought is the state would buy Wrigley, then try to make a quick buck through selling naming rights…Oh, they know fans would be up in arms over losing “Wrigley Field,” so rather then lose the name, they will rationalize selling the naming rights by stating that Wrigley Field would retain its monicker. So, we might expect to see “Baxter welcomes you to beautiful Wrigley Field,” or “Motorola welcomes fans to Wrigley Field.”
The rationale being, sell naming rights to a local Illinois company, with the instruction being that the Wrigley Field name is retained WITH mention of the sponsoring company at every opportunity.
Example: “This is Pat Hughes and Ron Santo, coming to you from beautiful Wrigley Field, brought to you by Baxter.” Or, “Hi folks, Len Kasper and Bob Brenly coming to you from Motorola’s Wrigley Field…”
Hard to stomach…
