Trib tracks the taxes

The Chicago Tribune published
a great layout of exactly what voters can expect from the new taxes being pushed by the General Assembly, Cook Co., and the City of Chicago. Damn, it’s going to be a long year.

Having received our latest tax bill late last week I was somewhat relieved, but also a bit confused; Our taxes went down a bit, but I’m not sure if that is an effect of filling out a tax relief form sent by Houlihan’s office earlier in the year…our mail system being what it is, by the time we received the Houlihan tax break form, it was already due back in his office.

I filled out the form and mailed it in anyway, but heard nothing back from the Assessor’s office.

In reading through the tax bill, I saw no indication that the “tax relief form,” I sent in had been incorporated into our tax bill…yet the bill was slightly smaller then the 1st installment earlier in the year.

I guess I should count my blessings that unlike a large chunk of the population, we “got lucky” this time around…

I really have very little idea how the property tax system in Illinois (and probably around the nation) works. It’s not because I haven’t tried, but because it’s so damn complicated!!!
