Living and breathing in the Second City
Now listen. I thought all the mess made over James Frey was ridiculous last year. I felt like the guy was being crucified for a problem possibly endemic to the publishing industry. That said, I think it’s interesting that Obama is not catching more hell for the Tribune report on Sunday that found some inaccuracies in his own memoir:
Then there’s the copy of Life magazine that Obama presents as his racial awakening at age 9. In it, he wrote, was an article and two accompanying photographs of an African-American man physically and mentally scarred by his efforts to lighten his skin. In fact, the Life article and the photographs don’t exist, say the magazine’s own historians.
Again, I don’t think this is a burning offense, but I’d hate to think the author of a book about drug addiction (James Frey) would get more scrutiny for his exaggerations than a man many are trying to anoint president. It’s the principle of the thing, right?
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Prediction:
Hilary wins the democratic nomination and Obama is her running mate as vice pres.
It’s so sweet, that it almost seems as if this was the plan all along.
