Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that if Obama gets elected, it will be a fast track to exactly the kind of existence Orwell described in 1984. So why not head the critics off at the pass? “I wouldn’t be like 1984! …Hillary would be!”
In truth: neither one of them is acceptable, and even Joe sixpack knows it. 2008 could be an interesting year for the Libertarians, assuming they don’t pull out automatic weapons and shoot themselves in both feet with them, like they did at their 2004 convention. (Note to Libertarians: unless you know what’s going on before the convention: DON’T GO TO THE CONVENTION, AND CAST A VOTE BASED ON ONE GODDAMNED SPEECH!)
A few years ago, Obama was an admitted gungrabber. He loses ~5,000,000 votes right there, assuming people don’t foolishly believe him when he changes his tune for the presidency.
Nice commercials or not, the Democrats are really scraping the bottom of the barrel for 2008 if it comes down to Hillary or Hussein.
Anyone who thinks government power should be limited can’t vote for either of them in good conscience. Moreover, Hillary is actually probably slightly further away from being the “1984″ candidate than Obama is. She’s at least smart enough to see that “Keynesian economics” is just a meme generation tactic for controlling the poorly-educated. Obama actually believes it! (Look up “capitalism” in the index of his inane book “The Audacity of Hope” if you want to see the typical earnest but completely uneducated public-schoolteacher view of capitalism. It is this kind of earnest stupidity that is really, really, really dangerous when given the reigns of power, because no matter what happens, more government is always the answer, and the use of coercion increases exponentially with any problem it is applied to. A better title for the book would be “The Audacity of Socialism”)
